Widmer Brothers' Introduce Drop Top Amber Ale: A Rich, Flavorful Amber Ale That's Smooth & Easy To Drink 3/15/2003
Portland, OR – The brewery famous for its award-winning Hefeweizen and for introducing seasonal beers to America adds a new product to its line-up this spring with Drop Top Amber Ale.
Drop Top will be available beginning March 10 in 6-packs of 12 ounce custom long neck bottles and in draught kegs from stores and bars in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Arizona and Montana.
Drop Top is classified as an American Amber Ale. However, Drop Top borrows flavor elements from many different beer styles including brown ales, marzens and even cream stouts. “The goal for this beer was not to fit into a defined category, but rather to make the best tasting beer possible,” said Kurt Widmer.
Drop Top is brewed with three unique ingredients: Simcoe hops, honey malt and a touch of milk sugar. Simcoe hops -- a proprietary variety -- provide pronounced citrus flavors with little lingering bitterness. The honey malt and milk sugar provide a rich, silky smooth flavor with a subtly sweet finish. All ingredients combine to deliver complexity and flavor without a trace of harshness.
“Drop Top is all about simple pleasures – riding in a convertible, wind in your hair, kicking back, taking it easy,” explained Widmer. “Drop Top is all about enjoying the moment.”
Drop Top sports a look that is quite different than Widmer’s other beers. “We wanted beer drinkers to know that this is a special beer,” said Kurt Widmer. “We spent the better part of a year developing Drop Top, including testing different yeast strains as well as a wide variety of hops and malts. This beer is like no other that we have brewed and we wanted to make sure our customers new that.”
Kurt and Rob Widmer founded their brewery in 1984 in Portland, Oregon. Since then they’ve honed their craft and passion into one of the leading craft breweries in America and some of the most unforgettable beers around. < Back
